“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is his faithfulness.” — Lamentations 3:22-23
I love that this verse comes from a book called Lamentations — a book that is essentially one long, honest grief. The writer is not pretending things are fine. And right in the middle of that honesty, he says something that should genuinely surprise us: new mercy, every single morning, without exception.
If anyone had the right to assume mercy ran out, it was him. And instead, he found it freshly available again the next day.
You Do Not Have to Carry Yesterday Into Today 🤍
How many of us go to bed replaying the moment we snapped at our toddler, the time we scrolled instead of playing, the way we handled bedtime all wrong — and wake up the next morning still carrying that weight, as if yesterday’s failures are somehow still due today?
This verse says otherwise. Mercy is not stockpiled and rationed out until it runs dry. It is new, every single morning — not leftover, not depleted, not waiting for you to earn it back first.
What This Looks Like on a Fresh Morning 🏡
- Waking up after a hard parenting day and choosing not to greet your child with yesterday’s guilt still clinging to you
- Letting go of the mental replay of everything you did wrong, because God is not replaying it either
- Receiving today as genuinely new — not a continuation of yesterday’s failures, but a fresh offer of grace
- Extending that same new mercy to your toddler too, who also gets a fresh start this morning, tantrum and all
A Prayer For a Fresh Start Today 🙏
Lord, thank You that I do not have to drag yesterday into today. Your mercy is new this morning, and I receive it freely. Help me extend that same fresh grace to my children today too. Amen.
Whatever yesterday looked like in your home, this morning comes with mercy that has never been used before — made fresh, just for today. 🤍
