“God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day.“ — Psalm 46:5
This verse uses “her” to describe a city under God’s protection — but I cannot read it as a mom without hearing it personally too. Because there are days motherhood genuinely feels like trying to stand on ground that keeps shifting underneath you.
And right there in the middle of that shifting, this verse makes a quiet, steady promise: she will not fall.
Not Because She’s Strong Enough On Her Own
Notice the reason given — it is not “she will not fall because she is so capable, so prepared, so put together.” It is “God is within her.” The steadiness does not come from having it all figured out. It comes from Who is present with her in the middle of not having it figured out.
That is such good news for the mom who feels like she is barely holding on some days. You are not required to be unshakable on your own. You don’t have to be unshakable on your own. If you belong to Christ, you can rest in the truth that He is with you, even on the days when you feel anything but steady.
Finding God’s Steadiness in the Middle of Motherhood
- Standing in the kitchen at 6pm, completely depleted, and remembering that not falling does not mean not feeling weary — it means being held even in the weariness
- Trusting “God will help her at break of day” on the nights you genuinely do not know how you will face tomorrow
- Releasing the pressure to feel strong, and instead resting in the truth that His presence within you is what actually keeps you standing
- Letting this verse be a quiet anchor on the days that feel the most unsteady
A Prayer For the Days You Feel Like You’re Barely Standing
Lord, some days I feel like I am about to fall, and I need to remember it is Your presence in me, not my own strength, that keeps me standing. Help me at the break of this new day. Amen.
If today has felt unsteady, let this verse remind you that you don’t have to face it in your own strength. Your hope isn’t in your ability to hold everything together. It’s in the God who is present with you, even when life feels uncertain.
