Bringing God Into Your Daily Life With Your Little One — A Faith Filled Guide for Christian Mamas

Mama, can I ask you something?

What does your faith actually look like on a Tuesday?

I’m not talking about Sunday morning faith — the dressed up with a smile on our face, ready to greet, sing, sit and listen. But Tuesday faith. The faith that shows up in your kitchen at 7am with a toddler who barely slept, meaning you didn’t sleep, a sink full of dishes, battling tantrum after tantrum while there is so much to do and absolutely zero minutes carved out for a quiet devotional.

I’ve come to love the reminder that faith doesn’t have to be reserved for Sunday mornings or planned devotional time. We can bring God into the ordinary moments of family life, too. Those little conversations, prayers, and habits can help our children begin to understand who God is and how He fits into their everyday world.

It’s not about perfection, it about choosing God with Intention.

Just the daily decision to point your little one toward God in the moments you are already living — the dance parties and the scavenger hunts and the morning chaos and the bedtime snuggles and the quiet stolen minutes when the house is finally still.

This post is a collection of simple, beautiful ways to do exactly that. Some are for your little one. Some are just for you. All of them are rooted in the belief that a home where God is present in the ordinary moments is the most extraordinary home a child can grow up in.

Start With Your Own Cup First

It’s easy to focus on all the things we want to teach our children: Bible stories, kindness, prayer, and Scripture. But nurturing our own faith matters, too.

The most powerful thing you can do for your child’s faith formation is tend to your own. A mama who is genuinely rooted in God — who talks to Him throughout her day, draws from His word when she is depleted, and models what real lived faith actually looks like — is doing more for her child’s spiritual development than any curriculum or activity ever could.

You don’t need a long, uninterrupted quiet time every morning to spend time with God. If you have a toddler at home, you already know that quiet moments can be hard to come by. Remember, your toddler doesn’t need to see a perfect example of faith. They can see a real one—a mama who needs God, turns to Him, and keeps growing in her relationship with Him.

So before the dance parties and the scavenger hunts — let us talk about filling YOUR cup first.

Your Morning Quiet Time — Even Five Minutes Counts

The idea of a long quiet morning devotional time is beautiful — and also laughable to most mamas of toddlers. Your version of quiet time might happen in the car after drop off or during the one blessed nap or on the bathroom floor with the door locked while your toddler slides crackers under the gap.

And that is okay. God meets you there.

Even five intentional minutes before the house wakes up — your Bible open your coffee warm your heart turned toward Him — changes the entire tone of your day. Not because you have suddenly achieved some spiritual milestone but because you have started from a place of connection rather than depletion.

Here are a few simple things that make those five minutes count:

One verse – Rather than trying to work through a lengthy passage choose one verse to sit with for the entire day. Write it on a sticky note on the bathroom mirror. Whisper it to yourself during the hard moments. Let it be the thread that runs through your Tuesday.

One prayer – A simple breath prayer — just a few words spoken honestly to God before your feet hit the floor. “Lord help me be present today. Give me patience. Let my home feel like You.” Nothing elaborate. Just real.

One moment of gratitude – Name one specific thing you are grateful for before you pick up your phone. One thing — concrete and real. Not a general thanks but a specific noticing of something good that God placed in your life.

These three things together take approximately three minutes and they anchor your heart in a way that carries through the entire day!

The Throughout the Day Practice — Practicing the Presence of God

One of the most transformative faith practices available to any mama is simply learning to talk to God throughout the ordinary moments of her day — not just during dedicated quiet time but in the car and the kitchen and the toddler tantrum and the laundry and the grocery store.

“Lord give me patience right now.”

“Thank you for this moment God.”

“Help me see my child the way You see them.”

“I need You in this.”

This ongoing conversation with God throughout the day is sometimes called practicing the presence of God — and it is one of the most powerful faith forming habits a mama can develop. Not because it requires anything elaborate but because it keeps your heart oriented toward God no matter what Tuesday is throwing at you.

And here is the beautiful thing — when your children hear you pray out loud in the kitchen over a spilled cup of juice or see you pause and breathe and whisper something to God before you respond to a difficult moment — they are learning what real faith looks like. Not Sunday faith. Tuesday faith.

Bringing God Into Your Little One’s Day

Now for the fun part — the simple joyful creative ways to weave God’s presence into your everyday moments with your toddler or preschooler!

A Christian Music Dance Party

This is hands down one of the most joyful and effective ways to fill your home with God’s presence — and your toddler will absolutely love it.

Put on a few favorite worship songs or find Christian music made for young children. Sing while you’re making breakfast, play music during cleanup, or have a little living-room dance party.

You don’t need to sing beautifully or turn it into a formal lesson. Let your child clap, dance, make up movements, and enjoy the music with you.

There is something profoundly theological about worship music playing in a home where a toddler is spinning in circles and a mama is laughing and everyone’s heart is lifted. Colossians 3:16 reminds believers to sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs with thankfulness to God. Music can be one simple way to share that practice with your children.

My personal favorite for toddler friendly Christian music:

Listener Kids on YouTube

This is genuinely my absolute favorite channel for Christian music with little ones. The songs are scripturally rich beautifully produced and actually enjoyable for mamas to listen to as well — not the kind of children’s Christian music that makes you want to quietly leave the room! The melodies are beautiful and the lyrics plant seeds of genuine faith in little hearts.

Search Listener Kids on YouTube and let it play in the background during:

  • Morning breakfast time
  • Playtime and free play
  • Car rides
  • Bedtime wind down
  • Any time you want your home to feel filled with worship

When faith filled music plays consistently in your home your children absorb it without even realizing it. They hum the tunes, sing the words, and even ask questions about the lyrics. And slowly quietly beautifully — the word of God gets hidden in their hearts through song.

“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly — teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs with thankfulness in your hearts to God.” — Colossians 3:16

Scripture Memory Cards — Faith Formation Through Play

One of the most beautiful gifts you can give your little one is a heart that knows God’s word — and it starts so much earlier than most mamas realize.

Toddlers and preschoolers are at the absolute peak of their memorization capacity. Their little brains are like sponges absorbing language and patterns and words at a rate they will never achieve again. This is the single most powerful window of their lives for hiding God’s word in their hearts.

And the best part? It does not need to feel like school. It can feel like a game.

Our Scripture Memory Cards were designed specifically with this in mind — beautiful printable cards featuring short memorable Bible verses in large elegant typography that even the youngest toddler can follow along with. Each card features the verse on the front and a thoughtful discussion question on the back to spark meaningful faith conversations with your little one!

How to use them throughout your day:

During breakfast — prop one card against the fruit bowl and talk about it while you eat together. Read it together three times and see if your little one can say any of the words with you!

During car rides — keep a few in the car and practice them while you drive. Car rides are prime scripture memorization time — your toddler has nothing else to do and repetition happens naturally!

At bedtime — end every night by reading that week’s verse together. Whisper it over them as a blessing as they fall asleep.

During your dance party — write the week’s verse on a sticky note near your speaker and read it together before or after the music!

The 20 verses in our card set cover:

  • God’s Love — 1 John 4:8 • Jeremiah 31:3 • John 3:16 • Romans 8:38-39
  • Courage and Strength — Joshua 1:9 • Philippians 4:13 • Psalm 46:5 • Exodus 15:2
  • Trust and Faith — Proverbs 3:5 • Isaiah 41:10 • Psalm 46:10 • Psalm 119:105
  • Kindness and Character — Ephesians 4:32 • John 15:12 • Psalm 127:3 • Psalm 107:1
  • Identity in Christ — Psalm 139:14 • Romans 1:7 • Ephesians 2:10 • Jeremiah 29:11

Pray Together — Out Loud and Often

Praying out loud with and in front of your children is one of the most significant faith forming things you can do — and it requires nothing more than words.

Pray over meals — not a rushed rote grace but a genuine thank you for the food and the hands that made it and the God who provides.

Pray over your child before they sleep — lay your hand on their head and speak words of blessing over them. “God thank you for this child. Keep them safe tonight. Help them grow up knowing how deeply they are loved by You.”

Pray when things go wrong — when the cup spills and the plan falls apart and the day goes sideways let your child hear you turn to God in the middle of it. “Lord I need patience right now. Help me respond with grace.” This is the most powerful faith formation of all — seeing mama need God and reach for Him in real time.

Pray when things go right — when something beautiful happens let your first response be gratitude to God spoken out loud. “Thank you God for this moment. Look at what You made!”

Children who grow up in homes where prayer is natural and constant do not think of God as someone who lives at church. They think of God as someone who lives with them. And that is exactly the truth.

Read the Bible Together — Even the Littlest Ones

You do not need to wait until your children can read to introduce them to God’s word. The habit of opening the Bible together — even just a children’s version with beautiful illustrations — plants seeds that grow for a lifetime.

For toddlers a simple children’s Bible with bright illustrations and short easy stories is perfect. Read one story together at bedtime. Talk about it simply. Ask one easy question. “Who made the stars?” “Who loves us?” “What did Jesus do?”

The goal is not comprehensive theological education. The goal is familiarity — the comfortable sense that this book is important this book is ours this book tells the story of the God who loves us.

Create a Simple Faith Rhythm for Your Home

A faith rhythm is different from a faith schedule. A schedule is rigid — something to fail at on the hard days. A rhythm is flexible — something to return to even after you have missed it.

Here is a simple faith rhythm that works beautifully for families with toddlers and preschoolers:

Morning

  • One verse read together at breakfast (use your scripture memory cards!)
  • A simple one sentence prayer before the day begins
  • Listener Kids playing in the background during morning play

Throughout the Day

  • Worship music playing during transitions
  • Spontaneous gratitude pointed toward God — “Look at that flower! God made that!”
  • Short prayers in the moment as needs arise

Evening

  • A children’s Bible story at bedtime
  • Pray together over the day — what was hard what was good what are we thankful for
  • Whisper a blessing over your child as they fall asleep

Weekly

  • A scavenger hunt that includes a Faith Connection section
  • Scripture memory card practice — review last week’s verse introduce a new one
  • A Christian music dance party just for the joy of it!

This rhythm takes almost no extra time because it is woven into the things you are already doing — breakfast, bedtime, playing music. It is not an addition to your day. It is intention within your day.

Speak Faith Over Your Home and Your Children

Words have power. The words we speak over our children become the voices in their heads for the rest of their lives. And the words we speak over our homes shape the spiritual atmosphere of everything that happens within them.

Make it a habit to speak faith out loud in your home. Not just in prayer — but in the ordinary ongoing narration of your day:

“God made that butterfly and He knew you would love it.”

“You are fearfully and wonderfully made — God thought about you when He was creating you.”

“This home belongs to God and He fills it with peace.”

“We are so blessed — look at everything God has given us.”

“God is with you right now. He never leaves.”

These simple spoken declarations over your children and your home do something profound over time — they shape the lens through which your child sees the world. A child who grows up hearing these things does not just know about God. They live in a world where God is present real and woven into everything they see and experience.

That is the most powerful faith formation available to any of us. Not curriculum. Not programs. Words spoken with love and intention in the ordinary moments of an ordinary Tuesday.

A Word for the Mama Who Feels Like She Is Not Doing Enough

I want to speak directly to the mama who is reading this and already making a mental list of all the things she is not doing. Please hear me when I say you do not have to do all of this. You do not have to do most of this. You just have to do some of this — imperfectly, inconsistently, and with more grace for yourself than you probably feel like you deserve right now.

Faith formation is not a curriculum you complete. It is a direction you face. And every day that you turn your heart toward God — in five minutes or fifty, in a dance party or a prayer, or a single verse read over breakfast — you are facing the right direction.

Your children are watching. And what they see is a mama who needs God and reaches for Him. A mama who loves God and shows it in the ordinary moments. A mama who is not perfect but who is pointed — consistently, imperfectly, beautifully pointed — toward the One who holds them all.

That is enough. It’s more than enough. Loving God is everything.

“But as for me and my house — we will serve the Lord.” — Joshua 24:15

You were made for this mama.
